Water Flow Rate Calculator
Calculate water flow rate from volume and fill time, or from daily demand and operating hours.
Use this calculator for quick public health design checks where a required water flow rate needs to be established from a known volume over time. It can be used for simple fixture filling checks, storage replenishment assessments or converting daily water demand into an average operating flow rate.

Method
Where volume and fill time are known, flow rate is calculated from:
Flow Rate = Volume ÷ Time
Where daily demand is known, average operating flow is estimated from:
Flow Rate = Daily Demand ÷ Operating Time
Results are shown in both L/s and m³/h.
- Flow Rate = water flow rate
- Volume = water volume (L)
- Time = filling or operating time
- Daily Demand = total daily water demand (L/day)
- Calculated result = -
Reference
- This calculator provides a simple flow rate estimate from a known water volume over a known time period.
- It can be used for preliminary tank filling, replenishment, appliance demand or average daily demand conversion checks.
- Final flow requirements may need further refinement using fixture loading, simultaneous demand or utility criteria depending on the project.
- Relevant guidance may include BS EN 806, the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations and project-specific water authority requirements.
Design note: This calculator is an indicative estimating tool only. Final design should consider simultaneous use, storage strategy, boosted supply requirements, pipe sizing, velocity limits and project-specific operating patterns.
